Practice Manager for Independent, Small Animal Practice.

Job Description

The available position

Our practice manage sadly has made the decision to move out of London at the end of February 2025, which means we are looking for a permanent, full time practice manager. She has helped to create a culture where we meet regularly to discuss how we run the Practice and where everyone knows their role, but happily help each other. We now need someone to carry on her good work and help to take the Practice forwards.

The current shift pattern is a rotating two-week rota, with one week working 45 hours and the next week working 35 hours. This allows for every second Monday off. The shift pattern consists of opening and closing shifts but covering the hours of 8:30am-6pm each day, with an hour’s lunch break (unpaid). We are flexible with these hours and shift patterns.

The ideal candidate would have previous veterinary practice management experience, and it would be a bonus if the candidate is a UK RVN.

Annual salary expectations would be £35,000 - £40,000 for FTE.

If using the accommodation £30,000-35,000 for FTE

Accommodation is available. If you wish to have accommodation, then you will be responsible for being on call 1 week on with 1 week off. Monday-Friday only. On call is checking in-patients at 8pm and 10pm. It is not common that we have in-patients, however, we can have in-patients admitted up until 6pm, so you do need to be available on your weeks on. The pet owner is made aware that the checks are only at 8pm and 10pm. If the vet feels the patient requires hospitalisation at a 24-hour practice, we will refer the patient before 6pm.

Accommodation is a large space within the practice, you would have your own bedroom, lounge room, bathroom, and kitchen to yourself. In your kitchen you have a washing machine and dryer that you would share with the other nurse who lives in a studio apartment above your accommodation. All bills including council tax are paid.

You would be entitled to 20 days annual leave, plus bank holidays (pro rata) and CPD allowance.

It would be great if you were part of the weekend rota doing one Saturday a month  9am-1:30pm, but this is not essential. This shift can be taken as extra pay or time in lieu.

Job role would consist of:

  • Arrange regular visits and maintain contact with industry company representatives
  • Rota management for nurses and vet
  • Arrange monthly staff meetings and 1 to 1s
  • Stock control
  • Create and post social media content
  • Account management for client account
  • Health and safety
  • Staff education
  • Lead and support veterinary staff on a day-to-day basis
  • Customer service and other reception duties
  • Surgery, medical and kennel nursing duties (if RVN qualified)

Added bonus for the candidate to have but these are not essential:

  • Appointed person for emergency first aid in the workplace
  • Qualified as a Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS)
  • Current clinical coach
  • Experience in pet travel requirements

About us

We are a small animal, independent practice in SW London. We are a hard-working and friendly team consisting of three vets and two RVNs (you would make it three RVNs), one SQP and three VCAs nurse/support staff. Fully equipped practice with-in house MiLab blood machines, IV fluid pumps, digital radiographs, dental radiographs, and ultrasound. We do see some exotics (rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, ferrets) but experience in this area is not essential.

Our usual day

One vet consults all day, and a second vet does a mixture of consults and surgery. We have three to four procedures/surgeries booked each day. Two RVNs look after the surgery and medical patients, one support staff member is on reception and one in the office answering phone calls/dealing with emails. You would be the fifth staff member doing your duties and floating into other roles when needed.

If you are super organised and looking for a new challenge, we would love to hear from you.
