Person Specification

 Essential requirements:

  • RCVS qualified and registered Veterinary Nurse.
  • A thorough knowledge of Veterinary Nursing theory and current practice.
  • Recent relevant vocational experience.
  • Interest in teaching and training.
  • Ability to take responsibility.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills.

 Desirable experience / qualifications:

  • Degree / Higher education qualifications.
  • * Teaching / Training experience and / or qualifications.
  • Experience of clinical coaching / assessment.

 

*Training available for relevant qualifications not held.

 

JOB DETAILS

Hours of work:          

The position is Full time – 35 hours per week, usual hours are 9.00 am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday

 

Holiday entitlement:

20+ days per annum plus all statutory holidays, plus a two-week break over Christmas and New Year. Holidays primarily to be taken when veterinary nursing students are not attending class.

 

Remuneration:           To be determined according to qualifications and experience.

 Induction, review and staff development:   All staff follow a planned induction programme and are offered equality of opportunity to progress through staff training and development programmes.  The manager will conduct a full review of progress and appraisal after 6 months and thereafter, annually. Staff pay scales and duties are reviewed annually.

 All staff are expected to abide by all company policies and to satisfy all relevant legislation requirements.

 

Job Description

 The veterinary nursing tutor is responsible to the Head of Centre.

 Key Responsibilities

 The primary responsibility is the planning, organisation and teaching of the veterinary nursing diploma / apprenticeship.

  • Providing support and guidance to apprentices
  • To function well as a part of a small, working team and manage own time to co-ordinate tasks effectively.
  • To abide by and promote all LITE Ltd policies.

 Teaching Duties:

  1. Teach veterinary nursing to VetSkill level 3 diploma syllabus. Class hours are 9.30-12.30, 1.30-4.30. A priority is to ensure that students receive a balanced programme of teaching and learning, delivered effectively, to prepare them for their examinations and assessments.
  2.  Set course work / assignments.
  3. Prepare learning and teaching materials for veterinary nursing and animal care courses.
  4.  Co-ordinate learning and teaching materials.
  5. Ensure that learners are aware of Health and Safety at Work regulations.
  6. Increase learners’ awareness of equality and diversity, British values and Safeguarding /Prevent.
  7. Conduct risk assessments for teaching activities.
  8. Completion of registers, forms and other relevant paperwork.

 Additional Duties

  1.  To provide support and guidance to apprentices and their supervisors /clinical coaches.
  2. To ensure all apprentices receive equality of opportunity in training and assessment during their training programme.
  3. To maintain training and assessment documentation.
  4. To participate in external verification procedures.
  5. To provide regular support and guidance to workplace assessors on the training process.
  6. Attend staff and management meetings
  7. Liaise with external organisations as required.
  8. Assist with the preparation of management information.
  9. Cover for staff during absence.
  10. Maintain currency of occupational competence.
