Whilst trying to get a HR from your feline patients, it can be quite difficult to hear when they are purring away! A good tip I got from a vet student was to put a small amount of surgical spirit on a swab and rub it on there nose, works wonders and doesn't cause a huge amount of stress
PS: Whilst you're here, take a moment to see our latest job opportunities for vet nurses.
I've tried the spirit swab tip and found that it doesn't work =[
Also putting them near a window (if you have a clear one) as distraction can help... they like a good view!
You only need to let the pussie sniff the horrid spirit swab to stop it purring & not dab it's nose as thats not feline friendly is it!!
Just place spirit swab under pussies nose, no need to dab the nose as this isn't feline friendly is it!!
i love the surgical spirit solution it works well...there faces are hilarious "what is... THAT!me not happy now"
running water is an excellent technique for purring cats! works a treat :-)
yes, I have heard of turning on a tap - never tried it though! Would much prefer a purring cat that one which is trying to kill me lol!!
Also one to try, turning the tap on (not necessarily putting the cat near the sink) but the sound and sight of the running water sometimes stops them purring, and again minimal stress.
