Attach a giving set (which is attached to an empty drip bag) to the end of the catheter and ensure the giving set is 'open'. This will ensure the patient stays clean and dry from urine as all bladder contents will go into the drip bag.
PS: Whilst you're here, take a moment to see our latest job opportunities for vet nurses.
urine passes through the drip chamber fine, sometimes u need to squeeze it through.
i generally use a peg and peg the bag to the lower kennel or lie it on the floor.
finally one more tip, either tape or coflex the line to the cats tail, this means there is no pulling directly on the urinary catheter and the tension is taken up by the cats tail. i normally tape it in 2 places one lower down than the other.
Does the urine pass through the drip chamber easily then? or does it collect in there? Also, how do store the bag outside the kennel?
Sorry for the pile of Q's but been wanting to do this for ages, just didn't know how to do it and hate seeing the cats covered in pee :(
Be sure to clip off the clamps on the line so that the line isn't restricted by accident! I find nail clippers work well to get them off without accidentally cutting the line...
